Tapas R Us

Tonight was our Tapas Night for International Dinner Group and it was quite a success. I made figs and chorizo which was sweet and sour and very spicy and quite tasty when spread on a piece of baguette. I also made steamed mussels with Romesco sauce. The sauce is made with roasted stuff--almonds, tomatoes, onions, garlic, red peppers and bread--all ground together with a food processer and mixed with spices, red wine vinegar and salt. It was quite tasty. We also had a warm potato salad with serrano ham and saffron and vinegar (very tasty), open-faced sandwiches with ham and gruyere and capers, meatballs in spicy tomato sauce, roasted red peppers, roasted almonds, and nonalcoholic sangria made with lemonade, grape juice (white and purple), seltzer and lots of fruit (oranges, blood oranges, lemons, limes, cantaloupe, honeydew, mango, strawberries--yummy!). It was tasty and fun.

I set up the living room/dining room like a bar with a few tables and lots of candles for mood lighting, music. The girls sat together at one table and we waited for the guys to come and hit on us but they all went to the cybercafe across the street (ok, it was in the den, but still...) so we had to take matters into our own hands and go hit on them. It was lots of fun and we all ended the night stuffed and happy. A successful dinner group, indeed! Next up--medieval/Renaissance food.

That about sums up the day since all I did was shop for and prepare food for this evening. I love days like today.
